Protecting
and securing sensitive z/VM data from unauthorized access is now more
important than ever. Local, regional, and national governments, as well
as regulatory bodies, are beginning to mandate that data be encrypted
when it is stored on removable media. V/Soft Software is pleased
to be able to offer two products for z/VM that will help you protect
your data on tape, as well as meet new legal and regulatory
requirements for data security.
Products
VM/Encrypt-Tape
VM/Encrypt-Backup
VM/Encrypt-Backup™
protects data by encrypting it, using strong, secure and robust data
encryption algorithms, as it is written to tape or DASD by the new IBM
Backup and Restore Manager for z/VM. Depending on security
requirements, different encryption algorithms can be employed, allowing
each site to select the level of data protection required.
VM/Encrypt-Backup™ provides for both hardware and software
encryption, so data backed up on one processor type can be restored on
another. VM/Encrypt-Backup™ uses the same encryption
algorithms
as
VM/Encrypt-Tape™.

VM/Encrypt-Tape supports the following encryption algorithms:
1) DES, a block cipher, with a key length of 64
bits.
2) 3DES, a block cipher, with key lengths of 128
bits or 192 bits.
3
) AES,
a block cipher, with key lengths of 128 bits, 192 bits, or 256
bits.
4) Blowfish, a block cipher, with key lengths of 128
or 256 bits
5) ARC4, a stream cipher, with an arbitrary key length of
up to 512 bits.
